Description
CSKA is the most titled Moscow basketball club in Russia, which is second in Europe after Real Madrid in terms of the number of winning trophies. Its history begins in 1924, when the Central House of the Red Army decided to create a basketball section. The club was given its current name only in 1960.
The team's history can be divided into several stages, and one of the most important began in 1970 with the arrival of a new coach, Alexander Yakovlevich Gomelsky. Under his leadership, the team won the Soviet Union championship more than 10 times and was repeatedly awarded the European Champions Cup.
In 1992, Stanislav Georgievich Eremin took over as head coach of CSKA. He led the team to numerous victories in the All-Russian championship. The team won the championship title 9 times in a row from 1992 to 2000.
The 2005/2006 season was also significant for the club. Under the leadership of the new Italian coach Ettore Messina, CSKA won the Russian Cup, the Kondrashin-Belov Cup and again took the title of Russian champion.
This club has produced many talented players and coaches who have become famous in the world of basketball on a Russian, European and world scale (A. Gomelsky, E. Alekseev, S. Belov, S. Eremin, A. Myshkin, S. Panov, V. Tkachenko and others). Many of them have been awarded the title of Olympic Champion, as well as Champion of Russia and Europe.
3-time Euroleague Champion, 4-time European Champions Cup winner, 24-time Russian Champion and 4-time Russian Cup winner, 7-time VTB United League Champion - without a doubt, Moscow CSKA ranks first among Russian clubs and has been one of the leading world champions in basketball for more than a decade.
