Description
The Summer Stage, built in 1950 according to the designs of engineer Baltazar Dulić, is a unique place in the Great Park. It is located in the heart of the park and has ideal acoustics for classical plays and operas. The stage is made of raw natural stone of reddish color, quarried in Rakovac from Fruška Gora. Thanks to this material, the stage harmonizes with the surrounding nature and creates an idyllic open-air atmosphere. The official opening of the summer stage took place on June 30, 1950 with the opera "The Sold Bride". A year later, a sculpture of the goddess Talia, who is the patroness and muse of stage art, was installed at the entrance to the stage. The stage itself is designed to be ideal for classical plays and operas, with a stone backdrop and two towers on the sides. This makes it easy to embody different types of repertoire without the need for additional equipment. The auditorium of the summer stage seats up to 1,000 people and has a cozy and pleasant atmosphere that can be enjoyed even without a performance. One of the most famous events held on this stage is the European Film Festival, which takes place every year in July. This festival attracts many spectators and is an important event in the cultural life of the city.
